A depression over the Bay of Bengal may develop into a cyclonic storm

The Sri Lankan and Indian Meteorological Departments and Meteorological Centers have said that Thalamukkam over the Bay of Bengal sea region is likely to develop into a cyclone.

A depression has formed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent West Central Bay of Bengal sea region yesterday night. The stations said that this depression is moving in the north-east direction and gradually strengthening and it may develop into a cyclone tomorrow (25).

The cyclone will be named Re Mel by Oman and it is expected to cross over North Orissa or West Bengal and Calcutta tomorrow afternoon, the stations said. In this case, Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology has issued a statement yesterday that the wind will blow at a speed of 60 to 70 kmph in the Southwest Sea region and Southeast Arabian Sea region.
